Preventative Care and Oral Hygiene

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gingivae (gums).

What is Periodontitis

Periodontitis means inflammation around the tooth- it is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and bone that supports the tooth.

Prevention is better than the cure- this saying definitely applies to teeth! A regular oral hygiene assessment with your dentist will catch problems before they become chronic, minimising pain and saving you money.

A variety of dental and medical problems including gingivitis, oral infection, heart disease, strokes and periodontitis (inflamed gums and bones) may be due to poor oral health.

Bad breath, bleeding or swollen gums or a change in the colour of your gums are all signs of gum disease.

Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Because it is usually painless many people are not aware that they have gum disease.
